FUNCTION IN PLANTS OCCURRENCE UNDER DIFFERENT SOIL CONDITIONS
  • Major function is in energy transport system.
  • An essential constituent of chlorophyll.
  • Activates an enzyme which catalyses incorporation of CO2 in photosynthesis.
  • Deficiency occurs in leached humus soils and sandy soils given lime, especially if soil is rich in K.
  • Plant uptake is most favored in neutral soils.
DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS AND CONSEQUENCES PLANTS PRONE TO DEFICIENCY
  • Old leaves become yellow between the veins. In extreme cases leaves become necrotic and die off.
  • In cereals leaves show chlorotic spots along the leaves.
  • Sugar beet, potato, hops, vine, nut and glasshouse crops.
