Micronutrients > About Micronutrients > Why Micronutrients > Why B

FUNCTION IN PLANTS OCCURRENCE UNDER DIFFERENT SOIL CONDITIONS
  • Important component for RNA and DNA synthesis.
  • Hormones are affected when B is deficient.
  • Deficiency of B inhibits transport of sugar.
  • In alkaline soils B is less plant-available because of fixation to minerals.
  • Humic acids form the main reservoir of B.

DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS AND CONSEQUENCES
PLANTS PRONE TO DEFICIENCY
  • Abnormal and retarded growth of apical growing points.
  • Impaired pollen germination resulting in reduced fruit set and irregular fruit formation.
  • Cracked stems with internal necrosis thus making plant susceptible to diseases like heart-rot in sugar beet
  • Sugar beet, mangold, celery, vegetables, apple, grape, oilseed rape and legumes, especially alfalfa.
